JUNGLE TREKKING

Trek though the jungles of Sumatra to see many of the wonderful flora and fauna that lives here. You have the chance to see Orang-utans, Gibbons, Monkeys, Sun Bears, Hornbills and maybe even a Sumatran Tiger if you’re lucky.

All prices include meals, tents, guide fee and jungle permit.

 

Option 1 – 3 hour trek

Price: 35€/person (Minimum 3 persons)

Includes: Fresh fruit, guide fee, jungle permit and extra 10€/person if you would like to come back by river tube rafting.

 

Option 2 – One day trek

Price: 45€/person (Minimum 3 persons)

Itinerary:

Trek starts after breakfast between 8 to 9 a.m. Walk around 5 – 6 hours into the jungle looking for orangutans, discovering medicinal plants and learning about their use. Around noon there is a short break for lunch in the jungle, with the rest of the trek continuing after lunch. You can choose either to walk back to Bukit Lawang or to travel back by tube-rafting down the river (extra 10€/person).

Price includes: licensed guide, permits to enter the national park, lunch, fruit and water during trekking, and tube rafting back to Bukit Lawang.

 

Option 3 – 2 day trek

Price: 80€/person (Minimum 3 persons)

Itinerary:

Day One – Start trek around 8-9 a.m. (after breakfast). Walk around 6-7 hours into the jungle looking for orangutans, discovering medicinal plants and “jungle-food” learning about their use. Relax at the camp and take shower in a small stream. Preparation of dinner.

Day Two – Start trek after breakfast around 9 a.m.. Walk around 4-5 hours into the jungle looking for orangutans and other animals The rest of the trek continues after lunch. You can choose either to walk back to Bukit Lawang or travel back by tube-rafting down the river (extra 10€/person).

Price includes: licensed guide, permits to enter the national park, food and water during trekking, tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag/sheet, tube rafting.

What you need to bring: Good walking-boots or shoes, sports-sandals or flip-flops for walking in the river, sheet or lightweight sleeping bag, insect repellent, light trousers and long-sleeved tops (an extra set of clean and dry clothes for the night), flashlight.

 

Option 4 – 3 day trek

Price: 110€/person (Minimum 3 persons)

Itinerary:

Day One – Start trek around 8-9 a.m. (after breakfast). Walk around 6-7 hours into the jungle looking for orangutans and other animals, discovering medicinal plants and learning about their use. Around noon there is a lunch break, before trek continues through to the camp site. Take a rest at the camp, get a hot drink and take a refreshing shower in the small stream. Preparation of dinner.

Day Two – After breakfast, get ready for trek. Walk around 5-6 hours, move to another camp site, while enjoying wildlife, discovering “jungle-food” and learning about their use. Get lunch in the jungle, before continuing trek to the camp near the river. Relax at camp and swim in clean jungle river. Preparation of dinner.

Day Three – The following morning visitors can choose between a short trek into to the jungle, or just relaxing at the campsite. After lunch travel back to Bukit Lawang. You can choose either to walk back to Bukit Lawang or go back by tube-rafting down the river(extra 10€/person).

Around noon lunch break, before trek continues to the camp. Take a rest at the camp, get a hot drink and take a shower in small stream near the waterfall. Preparation of dinner.

Day four – Start trek after breakfast around 9 a.m., walk around 4-5 hours into the jungle looking for orangutans and other animals, after lunch the rest of the trek continues. You can choose to either walk back to Bukit Lawang or travel back by tube-rafting down the river (extra 10€/person).

Price: 190€/person (Minimum 3 persons)

Itinerary: Same as above. More chance to see wildlife such as Sun Bears, Elephants and maybe even Sumatran Tiger.

Price includes: licensed guide, permits to enter the national park, food and water during trekking, tent, camera tax, sleeping mat, sleeping bag or sheet, tube rafting.

PICK UP FROM AIRPORT

We offer pick up from KNO airport in Medan or your hotel. We drive you the 3 hours to Bukit Lawangpassing through several small towns, stopping at rubber, oil palm and cocoa plantations with a rustic atmosphere. Get a chance to meet local villages and see the Sumatran way of life. 

Cost of airport pick up is Rp 600,000 per car and you can share between 4 people.

 

HOW TO GET TO BUKIT LAWANG INDEPENDENTLY

If you want to make your own way to Bukit Lawang here are the directions –

Take the public bus (ALS) from Medan airport to Binjai (40,000 IRP, 2 hours)

Take the small yellow bus from Binjai to Tanah Lapang (10,000 IRP, 20 mins)

Take the public bus from Tanah Lapang to Bukit Lawang (30,000, 2 hours)

Beware of a scam – When the ALS drops you at Binjai some local men will come up to you asking you to get in a bus to Bukit Lawang. They will try to charge you 200,000-400,000 IRP. Just tell them you know where you are going and you will take the yellow public bus. Strangely there is no scam leaving Bukit Lawang, only on the way there.

 

PRIVATE TRANSPORT AROUND SUMATRA

If you want a more comfortable journey around Sumatra Indonesia the best way is to take a private car. Our cars are fully air-conditioned and we have good responsible drivers. (Prices are per car)

  • Bukit Lawang to Tangkahan (off road) : Rp 700,000
  • Bukit Lawang to Lake Toba : Rp 1,400,000 via Tongging (Waterfall Sipiso-Piso)
  • Bukit Lawang to Lake Toba : Rp 1,200,000 via Pematang Siantar.
  • Bukit Lawang to Berastagi : Rp 900,000
